The Blue Standard (Oceanic Global)

Oceanic Global relaunched their standards and certification in 2021. The Blue Standard Events Program provides sustainable solutions for producing conferences, corporate events, brand activations, retreats, private events, and community gatherings. MPI Sustainable Event Strategist

Through MPI's Sustainable Event Strategist Certificate Program, discover how to view the event planning process through the lens of sustainability. Learn tactical best practices for reducing the environmental impact of your events, and explore how to create a culture of sustainable decision-making throughout your planning process. Sustainable Event Alliance Professional Accreditation

The Sustainable Event Alliance offers three levels of professional competency: Practitioner, Specialist and Expert. Once you have completed the competency assessment, your submission will be anonymously reviewed by industry experts. Upon passing, you will receive a certificate of competency. Sustainable Event Professional Certificate Programme

The Sustainable Event Professional Certificate is comprised of 16 modules that include understanding the business value of sustainability, improving environmental performance of meetings and events, and effective methods for achieving social impact goals. As part of the programme, participants will have access to a digital workbook with activities to customise a roadmap for their own sustainable event. The course culminates in a straightforward “Final Sustainable Capstone Project”; a certificate of completion for 12 CEs and digital badge is awarded as a result. Events Industry Council Sustainable Event Standards

More than 100 of the industry's leading practitioners contributed to the development of the new standards, which have been purposefully designed to increase sustainable practices across the events industry.

There are seven (7) different standards representing different sectors of the industry: event organizer, accommodations, audio visual and production, destination, exhibitions, food and beverage and venue. Certification comes in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. For more information click here.

ISO 20211

ISO 20121 offers guidance and best practice to help you manage your event and control its social, economic and environmental impact. Every action counts, from relying on tap water instead of plastic bottles to encouraging use of public transport. ISO 20121’s flexible approach means that it can be used for all types of events.

The standard has been developed with input from many different stakeholders, including representatives from the event industry, to make it practical and useful. It addresses all stages of an events’ supply chain, and includes monitoring and measuring guidelines.  Learn more here.

Certifiably Denver Green (Denver only)

Certifiably Green Denver (CGD) is a voluntary program that provides free educational outreach and technical assistance on a variety of environmental issues to businesses in the City and County of Denver. The primary goals of the program are to increase participation and adoption of sustainable practices to minimize use of hazardous materials, improve energy efficiency and water conservation, and decrease the use of resources and generation of waste.
